Inventory Control/Stockkeeper | The Port Authority of NY & NJ | New York, NY
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is a bi-state public
agency operating some of the busiest and most important transportation
links in the New York / New Jersey region including The Port Authority
Trans Hudson Corporation (PATH), the primary transit link between
Manhattan and New Jersey communities and suburban commuter railroads.
Stockkeepers are responsible for the efficient and safe operation of the
Port Authority's stockrooms. Stockkeepers operate computerized material
management systems (e.g. SAP) and perform diverse stockroom activities;
including but not limited to the following: inspection, transportation,
storage, and issuance of stock items; computerized entry of all stock
transactions; physical inventories of stock items; operation of
mechanical equipment such as forklifts and power jacks;
assembly/disassembly of bulk racks and relocation of materials and
supplies of varying weights. Stockkeepers must effectively communicate
with agency's staff and vendors. Shift work may be required and
Stockkeepers work at our various Port Authority facilities throughout
the NY/NJ area.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates must be present the following qualifications in order to be
considered:
- High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution is required
- One-year of work experience in commercial warehousing or inventory
control
- Ability to operate a forklift
- Applicants must possess a valid driver's license
- Demonstrated effective customer service skills
The ideal candidate will present the following qualification profile:
- Working knowledge of SAP or other computerized inventory material
management system
Qualified applicants will be invited to participate in a written exam
that will assess candidates' knowledge in areas such as: general
stockkeeping methods and procedures; requisitions, inventory and storage
of all types of materials; safety practices; identification of the tools
used in various trades; and computations and numerical checking relative
to the trade.
Successful written-test candidates will be invited to participate in the
Stockkeeper Oral Interview and Performance Test. The oral exam will
assess the candidate's abilities in such areas as Situational Judgment,
Customer Service, and Oral Communication. Candidates who qualify on the
oral exam will be eligible to be considered for the next step in the
evaluation process, a practical exam. The practical exam will assess the
candidate's ability to satisfactorily fill requisitions from customers
within a given period of time. Time will be given to familiarize
yourself with the stockroom catalog, requisition, equipment and stock
room itself.
Selected candidates will be subject to a comprehensive background check.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey offers a competitive

$16.87 hourly (Subject to collective bargaining agreement)
